At Family Dogs Victoria, we believe that our breeding dogs deserve to live in loving homes rather than being raised in a kennel environment. Our Guardian Home Program allows our dogs to be cherished pets while still contributing to our breeding program. We take care of all costs related to their health, pregnancy, and breeding.

How It Works

  1. Finding Guardian Families: We look for people who want to provide excellent homes for our dogs. This usually involves visits and discussions to ensure it’s a good fit for everyone.

  2. Choosing the Right Dog: We carefully assess each puppy and select those with the best temperament and qualities for our breeding program—these are often the "pick of the litter."

  3. Becoming a Guardian: When we match a puppy to a guardian home, there’s a $600 fee, and we both sign a guardian family contract. The puppy will live with you for the first year, and we stay in touch to help them adjust to both homes.

  4. Health Testing: Around the time the dog turns one year old, we arrange and cover the costs for health and temperament testing with a trusted veterinarian. If the dog isn’t selected for breeding, they become your forever pet at no extra cost, and we end the guardian arrangement.

  5. Breeding Process: If the dog is selected, they will continue in the program. When it’s time for breeding, we’ll have the dog stay with us for a short time. After breeding, the dog will return to your home until a few weeks before the puppies are born.

  6. Puppy Care: The puppies are born in our loving home, and we take excellent care of both the mother and her puppies. We send you regular updates and encourage you to visit when the puppies are about four weeks old.

  7. Lifetime Support: After each litter, the dog returns to your home until they are ready for the next one. We ensure they receive a "fitness to breed" certificate from the vet before each litter, and we space out litters based on veterinary advice.

  8. Final Ownership: Once the dog has had their last litter, we refund you the $600, and the dog is yours forever.
